Favorite Television Night

Next to Friday (I will forever be a Fringe Junkie), Thursday night is by far one of my most favorite television nights. Two of my most guiltiest pleasures are showcased on this night. Starting at 9p.m is an old time favorite... Grey's Anatomy. I absolutely adore the story lines because they are so relatable. The music on the show is also fantastic. I love how they specially select songs that blend in with the story. Also, the type of music used is transformational in that the lyrics and musical arrangements tug at your emotions, allowing you to become one with the characters. I love the witty language used in each scene.  It's amazing how medical terms can become so easy to translate by the way the characters discuss cases. Grey's Anatomy is the perfect blend of medical drama coupled with romance. It's like "House" meets "Boy Meets World". Oh, and how can I forget the absolutely gorgeous male doctors in the form of McDreamy, Jackson & Alex!
My next guilty pleasure on Thursday night is ...dun, dun, dunnnn Scandal. This is a fairly new show but it has captured my attention from the first episode. Scandal offers steamy scenes, female empowerment and drama. Shonda Rhimes has done it again with this political drama showcasing the talented Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope. Olivia has a crisis management firm that specializes in ensuring that the secrets of the rich and famous remain a secret. I am totally in awe of Olivia's intellect and strong role as a leader.
So, what's your favorite Tv night? Please do leave a comment sharing all of your favorite shows.

Hair!

I'm coming up on my two year natural hair anniversary. I'm very proud of the strides i've made in my hair journey so far. But... today was not a good day. Firstly, my two strand twists were a mess (even though I had just redone them). My hair felt extra brittle and no matter how I tried to style it, it just wasn't happening. When I walked out the door for work this morning, I felt unattractive and extremely frustrated. As I roved through the day with the overwhelming feeling of defeat in my mind, I could think of only one solution ... a jar of relaxer (holds head and scream). Whoever said that natural hair is easy to deal with is a bold faced liar. It is a lot of things but easy. Much care, patience and knowledge is needed. As I thought back on my relaxed hair days I recall that that wasn't the easiest journey either. So, to ease my burgeoning desire to seek comfort in the creamy crack, I called my trusty hair braider and booked an appointment A.S.A.P.  For all those naturals out there who may get the itch to dive into a jar of Dark & Lovely because of a bad hair day or week, I recommend placing your hair in a protective style.  Out of sight, out of mind! After a few days of not bartering with your hair, you'll feel renewed in your journey. Stay Encouraged!

Resisting the urge to ....SPEND

It's that time of the year again! It's THANKSGIVING! With this season comes the great urge to shop. As I checked my inbox this morning, I was bombarded with over 20 emails offering Thanksgiving and black Friday savings. I was intrigued by the splashy advertisements with promises of FREE shipping and 50% OFF your entire purchase. Like a fish, I was reeled in by the advertisements. Needless to say, I scurried on over to each website and started putting item after item of stuff I didn't even need into my shopping cart. Before I knew it, I had over $300 worth of merchandise lined up for me to check out. As I reached for my trusty credit card, reality started to set in. I had just dug myself out of a hole of credit card debt that I don't care to relive. But, I started making excuses like, "It's 50% off - such a bargain won't come around anytime soon", and "you'll pay it all back by the end of the month". My debate with myself seemed so convincing but in the back of my mind I knew that if I had to fight this hard with myself I probably shouldn't be doing it. I had to pass up on all the black Friday deals. It was hard but I had to resist the urge to spend.

Below is a video on smart shopping.

Here's another video to help you overcome black Friday tunnel vision.

A thousand years

I just got back from seeing Breaking Dawn 2 and I was not prepared for the mindfreak I got. The movie was utterly amazing.  I urge everyone to go out and see it.

Inspiration from Urbanbushbabes

Today was not so good. Had to deal with a situation at work that had me shaken for a while. But all was not lost, I came across a very inspirational article today courtesy of Nikisha of Urbanbushbabes. The article titled "30 things I learned on my way to 30" really helped me in a way I didn't expect. If you want a little pick me up or simply a new perspective on life, please check out Nikisha's post by clicking the link below.

Breakfast

Many persons say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Two key benefits of eating breakfast are that it helps control weight and it gives you energy to improve performance.  Nice right?    However, i'm not much of a breakfast person.  I skip breakfast at least 4 times a week and when I do get something in, it's normally something that could hardly be described as breakfast. I consider myself to be one of the worst eaters in the world. Thankfully, I've staggered between being a size 4 and 6 for most of my adult life. As for that energetic feeling you're suppose to get... well to be truthful, I literally feel stuffed after eating breakfast.  That feeling is not something I enjoy first thing in the morning.  Here's what I grabbed on the way out this morning.  Does this count as breakfast?

Party Time!

A friend is celebrating her 35th birthday in grand style come next month. I'm super excited about the gathering and can't wait to celebrate with her.  In true diva style, my friend has a dress code and professional photographers at the event. I've been advised to attire myself in clothing that is in the black and white scheme of things. December nights in my home town are pretty unpredictable but i'm erring on the side that it will probably be cool based on the weather we're experiencing now. Here's the dilema... I don't know what to wear. Help!!!!

Did I mention that the party is on December 7th? So I've been searching the "interweb" and came up with a few looks. What say ye?

Hello World!

Okay! Here we go!!! My very first blog post.

So here's the deal, I'm taking an ICT course and part of the requirements for completing the course is to create a blog. So yeah, that's why i'm here.  Now I frequent many blogs and love the content they have to offer. But blogging for myself is a bit scary, partly because I don't think i'm that interesting. I don't have much to say and my life is pretty conservative and laid back (A.KA.... boring, hum drum, anal retentive, like watching paint dry).  Nevertheless, i'll give this my best shot :-)
