First Fruit

Yes! That's a papaya fruit. Can you believe the size of it? My very first one! It was harvested from a tree my mother in law planted in my back yard just under a year ago.

More Than Just a Pretty Food

  • Of course, the best way to use papaya is to eat it.  Ripe papayas are cut in half. After the seeds are scooped out the tender yellow to orange flesh may be removed with a spoon. Green, or unripe, papayas may be cooked like winter squash.
  • The skin of the ripe papaya is not edible but can be refrigerated and later used to as a face wash.
  • The fibrous bark of the Papaya Tree is used to produce ropes.
Benefits of  Papaya
Antioxidants, especially vitamins A and C, in the papaya prevent a number of health conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, aging and cancer. Vitamin A can prevent blindness and other eye problems, and ensures a healthy skin. It is an effective remedy for dry skin, pimples and acne.

The papaya helps to maintain the levels of blood glucose, thus ensuring a steady supply of glucose and high levels of energy all day.

Cool Shades

That's me rocking my sunglasses!

I absolutely hate them. Why (you may ask)? Well, because they weren't my first choice and they were  basically forced upon me. Let me explain. My son and I were browsing in a local store a few months back and he accidentally bumped into the sunglasses display and as a result, these ones fell off  and got a minor scratch on them. So... I was told I had to pay for them since my son caused damage and made them unsellable.

Aside from not being my first choice, I think this pair makes my already round features look even rounder and I also find them to be a bit oversized.
Needless to say, I've been meaning to change them for awhile now and as luck would have it, I came across a fabulous website that have a wide selection of glasses to choose from.

At GlassesUSA.com I fell in love with the ones below.

In addition to having one of the best selection of eyeglasses, at GlassesUSA.com,  you can get your prescription eyeglasses filled as well. Cool right! Oh, and another amazing feature on the website is the virtual mirror where you can see how a particular pair of glasses would look on you. You no longer have to leave your house to go shopping for glasses. Everything you need to select the best pair is right there on the website.

So if any of you are on the hunt for a beautiful pair of glasses (be it designer, fashion, prescription, whatever you want) check out GlassesUSA.com. And to you my loyal readers, when you order glasses from them, use the promo codes below to save on your purchase.

Deals, Deals, Deals

Black Friday and Cyber Monday ushers in the start of the gift giving season. Enticing deals, one after the next can be spotted splashed across TV screens, newspapers, bill boards and the internet.

People literally go insane to get their hands on something they didn't even know they needed before a sale was announced.

And I get it. I too get caught up in the black friday, cyber monday madness. This year the deals were especially good. Most of my favorite stores advertised 40 - 60% off storewide sales. But, before I clicked the confirm purchase button, I pledged to and successfully stepped away from my virtual shopping cart for ten minutes and seriously contemplated what I was about to do.

Because I took this approach to shopping this go round, I was able to make better decisions and not make spur of the moment purchases that were fueled by red tags. So what did I purchase?

This decision came about because I had to carefully weigh what was more important. Based on inevitable changes in my life and the economic climate in the near future, I have to tighten my purse strings and every penny need to be properly managed.

Even though I had to pass up some great deals, I have no regrets. Life goes on and there will always be next black friday and cyber monday.

Fun Facts about Thanksgiving

1. The first thanksgiving was celebrated with a three day fiesta! (Can you imagine partying for three days straight).

2. Mashed potatoes, pumpkin pies, corn on the cob and cranberries were not on the first Thanksgiving menu. Wildfowl, porridge and venison was probably on the menu.

3. Thanksgiving was not a yearly celebration by the pilgrims. Lack of harvest some years brought disappointment.

4.  The pilgrims used spoons and knives to eat with during the first thanksgiving. Forks weren't invented yet.

5. Every year, one turkey is pardoned in the U.S.A.

Oil of Olay Shine Control Lathering Cleanser - Product Review

Product Claims: Deep cleans to purify skin's surface with the cleansing power of a mask, in an everyday form that minimizes shine. This detoxifying mud cleanser lathers and rinses like a daily deep cleanser for thoroughly purified, clean skin.

Ingredients: Water/Eau, Glycerin, Myristic Acid, Stearic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Potassium Hydroxide, Lauric Acid, Polyquaternium-10, Fragrance/Parfum, DMDM Hydantoin, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Kaolin, Iron Oxides, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Ammonium Polyacrylate, Pentasodium Pentetate

My Findings: I have been using this product for the past four months and I am super impressed. It does everything it claims. I have oily skin and I was amazed by the shine reduction after just one use. The cleanser is very thick and has lather for days so a little goes a long way. It has a very pleasant smell that leaves my face smelling fresh and clean. I highly recommend this product, it is absolutely perfect.

A Balanced Babe

That's the definition of being superficial. I'm sure everybody has had their moment of caring only about superficial things (and that's perfectly normal). But, living your entire life that way is cause for concern. There is so much more to life than the materialistic, inconsequential things we chase after.
I found a fun quiz online that supposedly measures how superficial you are. While the quiz is not scientific, it does shed some light on the type of person you are. So, how superficial are you? Click the link below to take the quiz. Post your results in the comment box.

My results: I'm a Balanced Babe!
Your casual look makes you approachable, but guys still like to check you out from afar. You aren't very superficial, but you value unique style and certainly don't mind being scoped out by a hottie. Most importantly, you know that your appearance means nothing if you don't have a positive attitude to go with it.

Trends I'd like to see go away

This year has seen a lot of clothing trends from waaaay back in the day emerge. Have designers ran out of ideas or simply gotten lazy? Needless to say, there are a few trends that I wish to see put back in the vault and locked away for all eternity.

1. High-Low - I always get the impression that something is missing (maybe a piece of cloth).

2. Crop Tops - This trend is not suitable for every individual. Unless you're working with flat, toned abs, I don't think this item of clothing should be donned.

3. High waisted pants - Seriously, when did dressing like Steve Urkel become flattering?
      ------------->

But that's just my two cents. What are some trends you'd like to see go away?
